Land Rover has silently refreshed the Discovery Sport range in India with JLR's next-generation 'Ingenium' 2.0-litre in-line 4-cylinder diesel motor.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport is the latest in the company's range to be fitted with the new diesel motor, following the MY2017 Range Rover Evoque - the 2.2-litre TD4/SD4 unit it replaces is a very old design and cannot be modified easily to confirm to current and future emissions norms.

The 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel motor is offered in two different states of tune in the Discovery Sport.

The Pure and SE variants of the SUV are offered exclusively with the 150PS/380Nm version of the motor; as compared to the previous TD4 motor, the new unit develops the same amount of power and 20Nm less torque. Claimed efficiency is now at 14.29kmpl (up by 1.66kmpl), 0-100kmph is achieved in 10.3 seconds with a top speed of 180kmph.

The HSE variant of the Discovery Sport can be had with the 2.0-litre Ingenium motor in both 150PS/380Nm and 179PS/430Nm tunes.

The HSE Luxury variant of the Discovery Sport is exclusively available with the 2.0-litre Ingenium motor in the 179PS/430Nm tune. As compared to the SD4 motor it replaces, the new Ingenium unit develops 11PS less power and 10Nm more torque. Claimed efficiency is now at 14.12kmpl (up by 1.15kmpl), 0-100kmph is achieved in 8.9 seconds with a top speed of 188kmph.

The 9-speed automatic transmission has been carried over, while all variants of the SUV are fitted with the company's legendary 4WD system and Terrain Response management system as standard.

The updated Land Rover Discovery Sport diesel can be had either as a 5-seater (Pure, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury) or a 7-seater (HSE). The Discovery Sport is also offered with a petrol motor on the HSE variant only - this develops 241PS/340Nm, has a claimed fuel-efficiency of 10.68kmpl, can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 8.2 seconds and achieve a top speed of 200kmph.

The new Discovery Sport diesel lineup is priced from Rs 50.72 lakh to Rs 64.76 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai. It competes against the likes of the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5 and the Volvo XC60.
