It will be sold alongside the upcoming second-gen ICE Macan set to debut later this year.
The prototype model is largely similar to the current-gen Macan, but the final product may look rather differentproduct may look very different,
Expect big batteries and long-range capabilities, going by the Audi A6 e-tron concept that utilises the same platform.
Unlikely to reach Indian shores anytime soon.
Porsche has teased prototypes of the Macan undergoing testing, confirming that the model is finally set to go all-electric. It will be based on the upcoming internal combustion-engined second-gen Macan and will join the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo in Porsche’s all-electric family when it debuts globally in 2023.
You might want to take these prototype pictures with a pinch of salt though, as the model looks largely similar to the current gen Macan. Porsche has smartly concealed key design details with a weirdly designed front end, and fake exhaust tips at the rear. So expect the final product to be quite different when it debuts. That being said, Porsche has claimed the Macan EV will be the sportiest model in its segment.
While technical details are still scarce, Porsche has revealed that the Macan EV will be the first Porsche model to utilise VW Group’s new Premium Platform Electric architecture. You might have heard of this name before, because this is the same platform that Audi will use for the upcoming A6 e-tron.
For reference, the A6 e-tron concept gets a 100kWh battery pack which will help it cover over 700km on a full charge and support fast-charging up to 270kW (like the e-tron GT). So expect big batteries and long range capabilities. The Macan EV will also use the Taycan’s 800-volt architecture, which should translate to fast charging capabilities. In the A6 e-tron concept, fast charging for 15 minutes can get you a range of upto 300km.
Porsche will sell the Macan EV alongside the standard second-gen model. Speaking of the second-gen Macan, Porsche will introduce it later this year. Back home, we’ve already got the standard Macan with the spicier GTS and Turbo variants expected soon. There’s no word on when we’ll get the next-gen model or the electrified Macan, but we think it’ll be a long wait. It rivals the Jaguar F-Pace, and the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe.
