Porsche has taken the wraps off the updated Panamera that not only features cosmetic updates but gets two new variants, including a hybrid and a Turbo S variant. So without wasting any time, let’s get into the details.

What’s Under The Hood Of The Panamera Turbo S?

Want a Panamera that’s bonkers? You might want to consider the newly introduced Turbo S variant that’s powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine found in the Panamera Turbo. Here, this motor develops 630PS and 820Nm of twist, a whopping 80PS and 50Nm more than the Turbo variant. It’s also mighty quick, capable of hitting 0-100kmph run in a blistering 3.1 seconds,  0.7 seconds quicker than the Turbo. Top-speed is capped at 315kmph.

But power figures aside, the main highlight in the new Panamera Turbo S is that it’s the fastest executive sedan to go around the Nordschleife, covering the circuit in 7 minutes and 29.81 seconds!

Then you may want to consider the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid, which pairs a 440PS 2.9-litre V6 motor and a 136PS electric motor that is integrated into the 8-speed automatic gearbox. The combined output is rated at 560PS and 750Nm. Opt for the Sport Chrono pack that tweaks the gear shifts and engine mapping and Porsche states that the Panamera hybrid can do 0-100kmph in 3.7 seconds while top-speed is rated at 298kmph. Not bad for a hybrid, eh?

What’s also not bad is its all-electric driving range. A 17.9 kWh battery pack is paired with the electric motor and helps the Panamera hybrid cover 54km (WLTP claimed) on pure electricity.

Any Other Changes Under The Hood?

While the 330PS/450Nm 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine in the standard Panamera and Panamera 4 variants remain unchanged, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 unit in the GTS variant sees a 20PS increase in power at 480PS. The torque figure remains unchanged at 620Nm.

Any Changes Under The Skin?

All models feature a revamped version of Porsche’s Active Suspension management system for a more sportier drive. The Turbo S variant gets an improved suspension and active anti-roll bars for a sportier drive.

What Are The Cosmetic Updates?

For starters, the Panamera is now offered in three body styles: a saloon, estate and a long wheel base version. One needs to squint hard to find what’s new in the updated Panamera’s design. The front air intakes are larger and aggressive while the rear tail lamps have been ever so slightly tinkered. You also get new 20- and 21-inch alloy wheels, with three new additions.

While the interior hasn’t been tweaked much, the Panamera’s infotainment system does see the addition of new features like an improved online voice control, road sign and hazard information as well as wireless Apple CarPlay.

Is It Coming To India?

Considering that all Porsches are imported to India, we expect the updated Panamera to come sooner than later. It’s also safe to assume that the newly introduced Hybrid and Turbo S variants will make its way here. Prices could start well above the Rs 1.5 crore mark (ex-showroom).
