The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is a track-only version of what many consider is the best Porsche for the track, something even better than the flagship 911, the Cayman GT4. Now Porsche has revealed a rally-going version of the same which will be entered as a prototype at the upcoming ADAC Rallye Deutschland. The exciting news is that Porsche has hinted at launching it for potential customers later this year.
What is the Cayman GT4 Clubsport? Take a Cayman GT4, strip it off all the weight, add FIA-approved safety gear including a roll-cage and 6-point harness, give it a new suspension, brakes and racing tyres, and an unrestricted version of the 3.8-litre, flat-six engine developing 385PS/420Nm - and you have the Clubsport. There’s no manual gearbox available here, but the 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission is better suited to racing applications.
The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport rally concept shown on Twitter is the same car (we think, Porsche hasn’t revealed any specs) but modified to compete in the FIA R-GT category, which limits it to the tarmac sections of a rally. Visually, the car gets a huge LED lighting console on the hood, a roof-mounted air-scoop for the engine, meaty looking Michelin rally tyres on beautiful white rims, a fully-covered underbody and nylon tow hoops.
The Cayman GT4 Clubsport rally concept will be driven by 2018 Pikes Peak winner Romain Dumas at the 2018 Rallye Deutschland. All we can do is wonder how fun it will be.
