Land Rover has re-introduced the diesel variants of its flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport luxury SUVs. Both models utilise Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) new 3.0-litre diesel engine. Moreover, the prices of the MY2021 models have also been revealed. Here are all the details:
The Range Rover Sport diesel is offered in a total of seven variants while the petrol can be had in just three variants.
The diesel variants cost up to Rs 39 lakh more than the corresponding petrol variant. Moreover, the top four variants are limited to the diesel engine only.
Range Rover Sport diesel is powered by JLR’s new 3.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine that puts out 300PS of power and 650Nm of torque. It drives all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Land Rover claims that the Range Rover Sport can do 0-100kmph in 8.5 seconds and pushing on further results in a top speed of 209kmph.
Prices of the petrol variants have been hiked. The MY2020 variant was priced between Rs 87.01 lakh and Rs 1.01 crore.

Unlike the Range Rover Sport, all variants of the Range Rover get petrol and diesel options.
Incidentally, the petrol and diesel variants are priced exactly the same.
The diesel variant utilises the same 3.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine as the Sport.
The Range Rover does 0-100kmph run in 7.4 seconds, 1.1 second faster than the Sport. Top Speed though, is capped at 209kmph.
It must be noted that prices of the MY2021 petrol variants are the same as the MY2020 model. No price hike here.

We feel the reintroduction of diesel variants will make both SUVs more appealing to luxury car buyers as most mainstream carmakers such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW offer an oil burner in their luxury cars. Moreover, their frugal nature also means that you don’t need to visit fuel pumps as often as in a gas guzzling SUV. Moreover, JLR has also stated that the new 3.0-litre Ingenium diesel is Euro-6d compliant, which is cleaner than BS6 norms that are currently in place in our country. All in all, the diesel variants offer a clean and fuel efficient option for those who’ll be doing plenty of miles in their Range Rover.
