The first Indian edition of the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup came to an exciting end at the Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) on September 4, 2016. It was a battle between seven young Indian riders to become the winner of the Cup. In six races spread over two rounds, it was Ahmedabad's Sachin Chaudhary who emerged victorious and will now head to Spain for the qualifiers of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, which will be held next month.

The Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup was held alongside the 2016 Suzuki Gixxer Cup. The Japanese motorcycle maker played a pivotal role in selecting as well as training the riders. The first-of-its-kind championship for the age category of 13-17 years in India, the Road to Rookies Cup is a platform for the rookies to both race and gain international exposure. The riders were judged on several parameters apart from just being the fastest on the circuit.

Speaking on his victory, an ecstatic Sachin said, "It has still not sunk in that I have actually won the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup and will be going to Spain. I do not have words to fully express how happy I am. I learnt from the mistakes I made in the last round and gave it my best this time. I have put in a lot of effort to make it here and this win is truly rewarding." To give you some perspective, Sachin has been training since December 2015 and has been racing professionally since June 2016. He is in tenth grade and will now be balancing his studies along with his passion.

Speaking about the racing talent and Sachin's win, the head of Marketing and Product Planning for Suzuki Motorcycle India Suresh Babu said, "We have had a very successful first season of the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup. Young riders like Sachin prove just how much talent we have in India. Sachin has worked really hard and even though he hasn't had a lot of track time, his learning curve has been the steepest. The progress he has made is remarkable which is why he truly deserves to go to Spain. We look forward to honing more such talent in India, and to a bigger and better season of the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup next year."
