Indian two-wheeler enthusiasts rejoice! TVS Motors has finally announced that it will launch the new TVS Apache RR 310 S, popularly known as the TVS Akula, on December 6. This finally puts to rest all speculations and rumours surrounding the new TVS motorcycle which were doing the rounds ever since the bike was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The new bike will be the flagship motorcycle from TVS and is expected to be priced around Rs 2 lakh to 2.25 lakh (ex-showroom). It is also the first full-faired motorcycle from TVS and is based on the BMW G 310 R, which is being built by TVS at its Hosur facility.
From the many spy pictures posted on internet in the past, it is safe to say that the new Apache RR 310 S is a sporty and striking looking motorcycle. The bike has been equipped with twin-LED headlamps at the front that sits below a large windscreen. The fairing is a sharp and sculpted unit while the bike features a pincer-type LED tail lamp that makes it look distinctive. The new TVS bike also features vertically stacked all-digital instrument console that is a bit reminiscent of the KTM RC 390. Beneath the sculpted body resides a 313cc, single-cylinder motor that has been sourced from the BMW G 310 R. On the German bike, the engine produces 34PS of peak power and 28Nm of maximum torque.
We suspect that the engine will be tuned to suit the characteristics of the TVS bike. Its arch rival, the KTM RC 390’s motor pushes out 43.5PS of peak power and 36Nm of maximum torque. Even though the new Apache might not able to match the sheer firepower of the KTM offering, it will surely pip it in the refinement department. The riding posture of the new Apache RR 310 S is also more in sync with a sports tourer with raised clip-on handlebars and slightly rear-set footpegs. This should make it a good option for someone looking for a fast yet comfortable touring motorcycle.
The new TVS Apache RR310 also shares a lot of cycle parts with the G 310 R, including the alloy wheels, exhaust muffler, golden-finished USD forks, rear monoshock and switchgear. The bike features a trellis frame, petal disc brakes on both ends and ABS is likely to be an optional extra as well. The new TVS Apache RR 310 S will compete against the KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the Benelli 302R.
