It’s been 15 action-packed years since TVS rolled out the first motorcycle in its sporty Apache lineup, and the sub-brand has now crossed the 4 million mark in terms of global sales. From the original Apache 150 in 2005 to the cutting-edge RR 310 that is now the flagship of the range, TVS’ Apache range has brought the brand’s racing DNA to the masses.
For such a motorsport-oriented brand, it’s only fitting that it celebrated the 4 million landmark by breaking records with a chequered flag. At its Mysore plant where all the Apaches are produced, TVS created a chequered flag 957 feet long, making it not only the longest in India but also in Asia. With this, the company has earned itself a place in the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records.
The current Apache lineup spans from 160cc all the way up to 310cc, from 2-valve engines to 4-valve engines, air-cooled to liquid-cooled. The RTR 160, which came out way back in 2007, still acts as the entry point into the range today, and in a much improved manner, and 2016 saw TVS set foot into the 200cc segment with the RTR 200 4V. Today, ABS is compulsory on anything above 125cc, but back in 2011, TVS offered ABS on the RTR 180, making it the first bike in the country to be equipped with the technology. We wish TVS many more years of success and look forward to seeing what the Apaches of the future hold in store for us.
