With the updated pricing of the Honda CB300R, the motorcycle has become more competitive with other models in the segment. With the TVS RTR 310 being its main rival, naturally the first question that arises is how well the CB300R can stack up against the futuristic-looking RTR 310.
Engine
The TVS Apache RTR 310 has more power and torque compared to the Honda CB300R, and this extra torque is delivered at a lower RPM which should ideally give the RTR a better bottom-end grunt. Both motorcycles come with a 6-speed gearbox but the RTR 310’s BTO variant comes with a bi-directional quickshifter.
Underpinnings
When looking at suspension, the RTR 310 with the BTO kit has the better setup with a USD fork that can be adjusted for preload, compression and rebound, and the rear monoshock is adjustable for preload and rebound. With the brakes too, the RTR has a slight edge with larger front and rear brakes than the CB300R.
Dimensions
Kerb weight is the only aspect where the CB300R outshines the RTR 310, and the 23kg difference does have the potential to allow the CB300R to make up for what it lacks in power through a better power-to-weight ratio. Along with a higher ground clearance, adding to the RTR 310’s practicality is its larger fuel tank.
Features
From riding modes, cruise control and cornering traction control, to mobile connectivity, turn by turn navigation and many other features, the RTR 310 offers a LOT! When compared to the RTR 310, the CB300R just comes off as a very bare-bones motorcycle that doesn’t offer anything beyond the essential features like an LCD console, dual channel ABS and a slipper clutch.
Price & Verdict
(all prices ex-showroom Delhi)
When looking at both motorcycles, the RTR 310 has an advantage over the CB300R both in terms of price and features; but when taking price into consideration, both motorcycles are very close to each other. However, to enjoy the full range of features that the Apache RTR 310 offers one has to get the BTO version starting at an ex-showroom price of Rs 2,64,000(New Delhi) which is over Rs 24,000 costlier than the Honda CB300R.
Which bike is good for you depends on what you are looking for, if features are the most important factor then the RTR 310 will be the right choice, if you are willing to spend the extra cash to avail all that it has to offer. But if you just want a simple, light motorcycle that has decent performance, then the Honda CB300R is the right choice.
