Remember the KTM 390 Adventure Rally variant that was spied recently? Turns out, the motorcycle wasn’t something the Austrian bikemaker was testing. It’s actually a one-of-a-kind prototype rally tower being tested by Turtletech, an aftermarket parts brand, aimed at making the 390 Adventure a more capable off-roader.
What’s a rally tower, you ask? A rally tower is essentially an aftermarket accessory that can be bolted onto the front of a bike; a sort of frame, if you may. It lets the rider house a taller rally-style windscreen, reduce weight, and house more screens (or a sheet with directions), just like professional rally riders do. It also helps with stand-up riding, as the display is housed higher, thus improving readability while standing.
And all this is exactly what Turtletech plans to do with their unit. The company claims to be beta testing its fourth prototype of the 390 Adventure’s rally tower and plans to commence pre-bookings soon.
There aren't a lot of details regarding the specifications yet, but from what we can see, the rally tower packs a much taller windscreen, a higher mount for the TFT display, a 12V socket, and even a phone mount. Additionally, there seems to be two LED projectors up front (to sort out visibility in the dark) and an additional switch cube, though we’re still unsure of its functionality.
Apart from this, we expect the bike to remain more or less unchanged. So expect to get the same 373cc, single-cylinder motor putting out 43PS and 37Nm, mated to a quickshifter-equipped six-speed gearbox. However, one of the test mules was equipped with an aftermarket exhaust, hinting that the company could also be working on that.
Turtletech is yet to launch the product and reveal its pricing, so we will have to wait for a while for that. Nevertheless, this unique rally tower for the KTM 390 Adventure does seem rather purposeful while looking super cool at the same time.
