• Q. Hello..I own Gixxer SF FI ABS, it about 15 months old. Since, 3 months ( Odometer 1600 kms ) am getting engine noise very badly after running about 5 kms. This issue is only starts after running 5 kms. It sounds like Old bike which has loose fittings in engine making Tik tik sounds continuously. Apart from this sound, even engine get very rough to ride. First 5 kms travellings is like a Heaven, but after that it hell to drive with that sounds and harding driving. Mileage and Stabily was good. Can anyone suggest me to get ride of this issue?

I had the same problem and my bike has now run for 40k kms. I ride my bike smoothly and is handled single handedly. Suddenly one night there was this loud tik tik sound from bike, with the kind of noise i could make out it was timing chain issue and got worried because it requires opening your engine parts and is a costly affair. So i went to several mechanic and all of them said to change the timing chain. Then i caught one mechanic who was free and asked him to diagnose the actual cause so then he removed the chain tensioner and said its an issue with this tensioner part. Next problem was to find this part somehow i managed to get the part and as soon as it got fitted the noise was totally absent. learnings:1.Do not panic and rush for the repair directly 2.google some facts or check video on youtube3.go to a mechanic who you know and is not there to loot you. Do not go to unknown ones.4.In case there is a major problem directly visit service centre.

If this is timer chain issue, then it will be there all time (cold & hot engine). Since you said it start after 5 km run, the issue is in hot engine only. This might be of increased/ decreased tappet gaps. The metal parts in engine expand when it comes to normal temperature. An experienced mechanic can resolve the problem by adjusting the tappets gap using a filler gauge. Make sure that the engine is completely cold while doing it. Better drop the vehicle in workshop a day before & make sure that it not starting before gap adjustment

Wait, are sure that you have driven it just 1600 kms in 15 months if yes then it is really weird. My bike has same problem but the problem came at around 15000 kms then I got it checked service centre, a technician told me that engine parts( named 'timing chain and tensioner')will be changed. Now my odo reads 19000 kms yet I haven't got the parts changed because of financial issues. I also realised that this happened due to driving my bike uphill with a pillion at speed of 80kmph.
