We’ve had an inkling for a while that Hero was working on a hardcore version of the XPulse 200 4V, which should’ve arrived a few months ago. But hey, the XPulse 200 4V Rally Edition is here and there’s good reason for all amateur off-roaders to celebrate as it gets most of the Rally Kit bits as standard.
There is a catch here, though. Hero is going to make the Rally Edition only in limited quantities. The bikemaker hasn’t specified a number but has stated that the bookings for this version will only remain active between July 22nd and 29th. So, you will have to be quick to get this bike.
Hero has got the Rally Edition’s pricing spot-on. At Rs 1,52,100 (ex-showroom Delhi), the more adventurous variant is Rs 16,122 costlier than the standard XPulse 200 4V. The premium is well justified considering the upgrades featured, which include fully adjustable telescopic fork with 250mm travel, preload and rebound adjustable monoshock that takes the rear wheel travel up to 220mm, handlebar risers, and a larger side stand.
What you do miss out on the Rally Edition from the Rally Kit are the Maxxis knobby tyres and the flat rally-style seat. We haven’t got much clarity on whether the longer gear shifter pedal is included in the Rally Edition or not. But, considering that it costs barely more than what you would pay for a Happy Meal, it shouldn’t be much of a bother.
There are no changes to the engine. The 199cc single continues to put out 19.1PS and 17.35Nm. The 21-/18-inch spoke wheels continue to arrive with dual-purpose tyres too.
We are particularly impressed with just how affordable Hero has made the Rally Edition. Existing XPulse 200 4V owners too can get the Rally Kit and spec their bike out in a phased manner. But, they will have to shell out Rs 46,000 to get the full package.
