Land Rover India has launched the facelifted 2023 Velar on our shores. It comes in one single Dynamic HSE trim and costs Rs 93 lakh (ex-showroom) regardless of the engine choice you pick. That’s a premium of around Rs 3.5 lakh over the outgoing car. Pre-launch bookings are underway and deliveries are set to commence from September. It has got minor design and interior tweaks, so let’s get cracking without wasting time.

The facelifted Velar seems very familiar to the outgoing model as the exterior design changes are a blink and miss. The grille now gets a different insert and is flanked by what Land Rover calls ‘Pixel’ LED headlights with revised DRL insignia. In profile, you now get new wheel designs, while the rear tail lamps have a new signature. Tweaked bumpers at either end round off the overall design.

Thankfully, spotting the change on the inside is easy, thanks to the addition of JLR’s new 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. All the functions including the climate control have been bunched together, eliminating the need for separate controls for the AC. As a result, the interior now looks more minimalistic. The steering wheel and digital driver’s display has been lifted off the Range Rover Sport.

As for engine options, you get a choice of 2-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. No six-cylinder or hybrid yet for the Velar in India. The petrol engine puts out 250PS/365Nm while the diesel unit belts out 204PS/420Nm. Drive for both the engines is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

As for its handling, the Range Rover Velar gets air suspension on all four corners for a plush ride. And yes, it gets a bunch of off-road wizardry when the going gets tough. These include Land Rover’s Terrain Response system with different modes, altering various parameters depending on the one you choose.

The Range Rover Velar locks horns with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7.
