Yamaha becomes the latest two-wheeler manufacturer to offer connectivity features on its two-wheelers with the new FZ-S Fi Darknight. The colour option is now priced at Rs 1,07,700 (ex-showroom Delhi), so the premium you pay for the feature is Rs 2,500. Yamaha has started rolling out this tech with this particular model but all other two-wheelers will get the same bit soon. In case you own a BS6 Yamaha FZ/FZ-S, you can also retrofit this module from your Yamaha dealer.
You can connect to the system via an iOS or Android application where it requires you to sign up and register your vehicle. Once connected, you can get the status of your bike, your ride data, parking location history, and even turn on the hazard lights.
There are two interesting features here. First, it will be easy to locate your bike in a parked space with the ‘Answer Back’ option that will blink the turn indicators and honk twice. More interestingly, you can lock your bike with the ‘E-Lock Feature’. You have to enter a secret 4-sequence lock pattern comprising an indicator combination. In case you enable this feature, you will have to enter the same indicator sequence to unlock your motorcycle.
That said, there is no provision for turn-by-turn navigation or receiving call/SMS alerts, which is a bit of a shame. Suzuki was able to do that with the new Access and Burgman Street while TVS has been offering this feature on the NTorq 125 for ages, following it up with a couple of the Apaches. In comparison to all, this Yamaha feature does seem a bit underwhelming and gimmicky. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below or on our social media pages.
