When the nationwide lockdown was at its peak, we had reported that BMW Motorrad was working on the BS6 variants of the G 310 R and the G 310 GS. Over the past few months, both bikes were also spotted testing and now the launch of the BMW duo is imminent. Few BMW dealers across the country have even started accepting bookings for the 2020 BMW G 310 R and the G 310 GS. The booking amount for the BMW bikes is set at Rs 50,000 with deliveries set to commence from October. We expect BMW to launch the BS6 G 310 R and the G 310 GS in September along with a rather special bike, the BMW R18.
From the spy shots, we can confirm that the BMW G 310 duo will get cosmetic and mechanical updates. The 2020 version of the BMW bikes will feature LED headlight and slightly revised styling with a possibility of new colours or graphics. One of the major grouses with the BMW G 310 R and the G 310 GS was its gruff motor. TVS has already made the 310cc motor much more refined with its BS6 update and we are hoping BMW has also managed the same. In the Apache RR 310 BS6, the liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor churns out 34PS and 27.3Nm.
Our sources have also indicated that the BS6 BMW G 310 R and the BMW G 310 GS will receive a price cut. The German brand had faced a lot of criticism for the pricing of the G 310 duo. Despite being manufactured in India, the price gap between them and the KTM bikes was huge. This negative sentiment came through in sales with both bikes facing a lukewarm response, far from what BMW would have expected.
For this reason, the 2020 BMW G 310 R and the BMW G 310 GS are expected to receive a price cut of around Rs 30,000. If BMW does go for a price cut, the BS6 BM2 G 310 R could retail for Rs 2.70 lakh and the BS6 BMW G 310 GS for Rs 3.20 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).
