Jawa Perak: Prototype And Production Differences Explained

Jawa has finally launched the Perak in India at Rs 1.94 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Jawa’s first factory custom bobber was unveiled exactly a year ago at the launch of the Jawa and Jawa 42. While at first glance the production-spec Perak might look similar to the prototype, there are some subtle changes between the two. Here’s what they are:

BS6 motor:

The prototype showcased last year featured a BS4 compliant motor. The new Perak, however, comes with a BS6 compliant motor. Deliveries are set to begin on April 2, a day after BS6 emission norms are enforced in the country. Like the prototype showcased earlier, the production-spec Perka gets a larger 334cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor when compared to the standard Jawa. The rebored motor makes 30.4PS of power and 31Nm of torque just as advertised last year.

To comply with the BS6 norms, the twin slash-cut exhausts have been revised. The exhaust headers, too, have been revised to accommodate the catalytic converters. As a result, the new exhaust pipes now sit a bit more away from the motor.

The prototype came wrapped in Pirelli Angel CT tyres. Jawa will be equipping the production variant with Ceat Zoom Cruz Tyres.

Better handling characteristics:

Jawa says that the production-spec Perak has a lower centre of gravity than the prototype. The frame, too, has been stiffened in key areas for more rigidity. These new updates should improve the Perak’s handling characteristics.

Costs Rs 5,000 more:
