Yamaha has begun its 125cc scooter onslaught with the new Fascino 125 and Ray ZR 125. Of this, the Ray ZR 125 is the sporty scooter and also gets a sportier Street Rally variant. It gets an all new bodywork, new larger motor and new interesting features. We take a closer look at Yamaha's sportiest scooter via detailed images.
The new Ray ZR 125 gets an all new bodywork which is larger and sharper than the 113cc Ray ZR.

The Ray ZR 125 gets different graphics and two colours: Deep Purplish Metalic Blue and Sparkle Green. The blue colour variant gets silver body panels.
Instead of floating panels on the front apron, the 125cc scooter gets a more compact cladding. To keep lines sharp, even the turn indicators have been relocated from the panels to motorcycle-like units on the top apron.
The headlamp misses out on LED lighting and has a halogen bulb setup instead.
The top apron gets an LED headlamp with a small tinted windscreen. On the Street Rally version, you also get knuckle guards.
The tail section design is new as well and features multiple panels. The silver panel on the blue Ray ZR 125 Street Rally variant is made of metal instead of plastic.
The front apron has a lot of nooks and crannies. We feel that Yamaha should have utilised the free space and have offered an apron mounted bottle holder or a mobile phone holder atleast.
The tail lamp features a new design and is wider than before. Even the grabrail has been redesigned and is easier to hold on to.
The new digital instrument console shows the speed, fuel level, odometers, one trip meter and speedometer.
Yamaha has also equipped its 125cc scooters with start/stop technology like the Honda Activa 125. However while the Honda needs to cross a certain speed to activate the system, the Ray ZR 125 need to cross a certain engine temperature level to activate the system.
The scooter also gets a side stand switch that cuts off the engine if the side stand is down.
The new 125cc fuel-injected motor delivers 8.2PS and 9.7Nm of torque. That is 1PS and 1.6Nm more than what Yamaha’s 113cc motor makes. Yamaha claims the new motor is more fuel-efficient as well. It also gets a starter motor generator that offers silent starting operation.
Changes to the underpinnings are a larger 12-inch front wheel instead of 10-inch ones on the 110cc scooter, the introduction of alloy wheels and Maxxis tyres. The scooter also gets a front disc brake now.
The Ray ZR 125 Street Rally variant gets block tread pattern tyres that should offer good grip over a variety of road surfaces.
The Ray ZR 125 and Ray ZR 125 Street Rally will launch in February 2020. It is expected to command a premium of around Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 over the 113cc Ray ZR and Ray ZR Street Rally. The expected price could start at around Rs 69,000 (ex-showroom).
