Royal Enfield is ready to set the track on fire as it returns for Season 2 of the Continental GT Cup. If you missed out on participating last year, we have some good news for you as online registrations are now open until July 27.
This season, the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup will follow a Pro-Am format which will see professional and amateur racers battle it out on the same grid. Interested riders will be able to register under either one of the two categories: Amateur and Professional.
Out of these registered participants, 25 professional and 75 amateur racers will make it to the Rider Selection Programme at Kari Motor Speedway. The top 25 fastest riders during the Rider Selection Programme will progress to the race rounds, which will include 10 professional and 15 amateur riders.
These 25 riders will then battle it out against each other over a course of three rounds that will consist of eight races in total. The first round will be held from September 16 to 18, while the second round will be held between October 28 and 30 at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. The final round will take place at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida from December 16 to 18.
Over the course of the season, the riders will take to track the same race-spec Continental GT-R650 that was in action last year. For this season, though, RE has partnered with Harris Performance for enhanced track parts like lowered clip-on handlebars and even more rear-set footpegs.
Apart from this, the GT-R650 has retained the core basics from last year, featuring a stiffer suspension setup, and being lighter by 24kg while developing 12 percent more power than the road going Continental GT 650. It also gets sintered brake pads and brake callipers with insulated pistons for the harsh track racing environment. The GT-R650’s bodywork consists of race fairings and belly pans developed at RE’s UK Technology Centre.
