TVS Unveils New RT-XD4 Engine Platform at MotoSoul 2024

TVS Motor Company has unveiled its latest 300cc engine platform called the RT-XD4 at TVS MotoSoul 2024. This engine will likely power the next-gen RTR 310 and RR 310 and probably the manufacturer’s ADV. 

The RT-XD4 is a 299.1cc, single-cylinder, DOHC engine and it produces 35PS at 9,000rpm and 28.5Nm at 7,000rpm. It is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. The bikes powered by this engine will also have a ride-by-wire system, so expect a few riding modes. It has a dual oil pump system, also called as a dry sump system, allows excess air to escape before oil is circulated through the engine which results in an improved power output. It also reduces oil pressure issues. 

While this new engine will produce about the same performance figures as TVS’ 310 motor, the big difference is clearly the absolutely flat torque delivery. It’s common knowledge that TVS is currently working on an adventure bike, and a flat torque delivery would be perfect for an ADV to help it perform great off the road. That leads us to believe that this engine would be used on the upcoming ADV from TVS.

We believe that It won’t replace the current 310 engine as in its current form, it works wonderfully in the Apache RR310, and helps make it a beautifully beginner friendly bike. In theory, this engine’s characteristics would be great in a road bike as well. So after an ADV, this might make its way to a naked bike as well. In any case this engine platform is scalable, and might also come in lower or higher capacities. So there could also be an Apache in the future that comes with this new motor. Would it have the RTR suffix? Almost certainly not. But RTX is likely, as RTXD4 is quite long winded.
